A polychrome female helmet mask is worn by Makonde dancers on top of the head using the mouth opening to see out. This specimen from the 1960s' still retains the female red color and the human hair applied by bee wax. Now showing on a steel museum mount. The Makonde are native to South Africa and through Mozambique. The size is 14" tall and 8" wide,10" deep. Good condition.
