The Battle Standard ( Alam) Has a Long History In The Muslim World Where it Has Functioned in Military And Religious Events. The Present Example Most Likely Originates From North Africa Where it Had a Ceremonial Purpose. The Unusual Shape is of Spear Head Form With Five Sharpley Finished Projections. Each Side of The Flattened Form Forged Iron Head is Prolifically Decorated With Arabic Inscriptions in White Metal Inlay. These Inscriptions May Represent Quranic Versus or Homage to The Prophet or Allah. The Tapering Hollowed Ferule Supports Two (2) Knop Shaped Devices And The Exterior Has Been Inlaid With Gilt Metal Decoration. A Most Interesting And Historical Item Ready For Immediate Display.
