For sale here is an ICONIC vintage 1950s 60s hand wrought mixed metals metales casados and malachite Mexican modernist Frogs pitcher designed by Chato Castillo for Los Castillo of Taxco. One of Chato's standout designs from the 1950s, and combines many of his innovative techniques from the period including 'metales casados' (married metals) and 'mosaico azteca' ('Aztec' mosaic stone inlay). A lovely example primarily in brass but with a copper section just above the 'lily pad' that the carved malachite frog rests on, and with inset 'metales casados' (sterling and copper) 'eyes' to the inlaid malachite stone inlay 'frogs'. Such a whimsical and outstanding mid century modernist design by arguably the greatest Taxco metalsmith of all time! Measures 9" tall by 7-1/4" from handle to spout by 5-3/4" diameter near the base. Weighs 2 pounds prior to packing. The interior of the pitcher was originally silver-plated which has mostly worn away, and it looks like there may have also been silver-plating on the 'lily pad' but that is mostly gone too. None of which detracts in the least from this artwork in metal! Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown and with the above caveat but no dents or dings or damage to the carved stone frog or stone inlay - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
