HUGE Vintage 1980s 90s Handmade Metales Divoricados pre Columbian Aztec Ritual Scene ARTWORK - measures 19" by 14"! - image 1 of 6

For sale here is an incredible vintage 1960s 70s handmade 'metales divorciados' (divorced metals) pre Columbian inspired Aztec Ritual Scene Mexican modernist wall sculpture artwork from Taxco. Superbly crafted, finely detailed, and of a generous and impressive size! Created from small pieces of silver, copper, and brass, and with painted blue details in spots as shown. The design is of a pre Columbian figure, likely Aztec, with elaborate headdress of feathers, and holding a bowl of fire in one hand, and a stick on fire in the other. The design is composed of small bits of different metals (silver, copper, brass) that are cut-out and placed slightly above the painted black wood background to create the scene as described above. Measures 19" by 14" by 1" deep, and weighs about 5 pounds prior to packaging. Unmarked, but it does have an original price tag at back as shown in the amount of $8795 pesos, or about $425 US (in 1980s dollars!). I've seen similar pieces attributed to Los Castillo, which I don't think is correct, but there is no doubt that the craftsmanship and the design are of very high quality. The 'metales divorciados' technique of different colors of metals cut into pieces and raised above the black wood background to form a scene was originally invented by Jorge 'Chato' Castillo of Los Castillo in the late 1940s, but others copied it more or less successfully. This is one of the more successful uses of the technique by someone other than its inventor. Unfortunately not marked, but no doubt of Mexican origin, and I'm guessing from Taxco circa 1980s to 1990 or thereabouts. Overall very good to excellent condition but with some tarnish to the metal pieces, and a few of the thinner pieces have slight bends or very small dings but nothing that detracts from the artwork in my opinion. Please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyer.
