East Caucasus, Shirvan, cca 1900/early 20th century. Hand-knotted wool heavy and massive long rug on wool foundation.

Interesting antique Caucasian piece with remarkable design, featuring many typical elements of Caucasian repertoire, including wide crab-like border, tall and slim Shirvan palmettes, nicely geometrized flowers etc. The most striking motifs are four yellow-green checquered cypresses, which add to the dramatic effect on viewer.

Condition is good and usable, commensurate with age, with abundant places with traces of age and use, kindly see detailed images. Low pile at some places and with visible foundation, possible repiling at certain small areas, old repairs, at places corroded black and brown etc. Anti-slip underlay fixed to reverse side. Sold "as is", but immediately usable. Professional cleaning highly recommended.
