HERE’S A FRAMED ORIGINAL ARTIST-SIGNED AND DATED 1909 EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST OIL-ON-CANVAS PAINTING THAT DISPLAYS A BEAUTIFULLY-RENDERED DARK NIGHTTIME HARBOR SCENE WITH THREE SMALL BOATS AND A MOONLIT SKY SHINING ITS LIGHT ACROSS THE WATER’S SURFACE!
Please Note: This artist-signed and dated 1909 oil painting still retains its original gold-painted gesso and wood frame with an original framer’s label on the backside that reads: “MUELLER BROS. 434-440 SO. WABASH AVE. CHICAGO”
Dimensions: The painting itself, which is oil-on-canvas attached to a wooden stretcher, measures approximately six inches (6”) in height by eight inches (8”) in width. The overall dimensions of the gold-painted wooden frame are approximately ten and one quarter inches (10 1/4”) in height, twelve and one quarter inches (12 1/4”) in width, by one and five eighths inches (1 5/8”) in depth.
Signature: Signed with an artist’s signature in the bottom right corner and dated “1909” While the date is legible, the artist’s signature is indecipherable at the time of this writing. Please see the attached photographs above to make your own determination.
Provenance: This painting was acquired from an estate in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Condition: For starters, this painting has not been messed with in any way since it came into my possession. And from outward appearances, the painting seems to have never had anything done to it. To this end, the painting unquestionably needs to be professionally cleaned. Even for a nighttime subject matter, it is very dark. And there is considerable grime and dust on the painting’s backside.
Regardless, the painting’s surface looks to be in excellent condition, with no loss nor craquelure.
As for the frame, there is some chipping and missing pieces of gesso along the outer edges – but overall is still fairly intact and presentable.
I welcome inquiries and will provide additional photographs upon request.
Also, because I am by no means an expert on early 20th-century American Impressionist painting, knowledgeable critiques from museum curators and seasoned collectors are welcomed. Thank you.
Lastly, the photographs shown above were taken with a flash camera and therefore make the painting appear brighter than in actuality. Ambient lighting photographs are available upon request.
