PERFECT FOR THE DIORAMA TOO…Nothing quite says summertime like the tranquil hours spent in the garden. There the young and old alike and every manner of creature gather to commune with nature. That is where all kinds of daydreams, dramas or adventures take place.

This series of doll house furniture is very well made of pressed cardboard which is heavily painted and glazed. Because of this construction, it was one time thought to be made by Gottschalk. However, it is now more often attributed to Karl Schreiter. The term KORBI often associated with this furniture comes from the old German word for ‘basket’ or ‘wicker’...which in this case refers to the wicker style furniture.

NOT JUST FOR YOUR 'SECRET GARDEN'…Although perfect for the outdoors, wicker furniture was also popular for indoor use. It came of age in Victorian Europe and was also popular here in the States at the same time. This set is a versatile size. The sofa is 4.25“ across, each chair is 2.25“ across and they all stand 3“ tall. The ensemble has the original paint. The wicker pattern is very articulated and the pieces are vented at the sides and the back for coolness. The edges are trimmed in a pretty blue. With Korbi, one can typically detect where the glue has aged and discolored at the seams. The front piece of one chair, as seen in the photos, is misaligned, probably in the construction of it...but possibly it dried out at the seams and had to be re-glued.

PARLOR, PORCH OR GARDEN…you will enjoy the many uses for this set and the time spent thinking about it! The pieces can also be separated. The sofa can be used indoors while the two chairs sit out on the front porch; or in an upstairs bedroom.

CONDITION: See above. There is a drop of glue on the underside of two feet of one of the chairs . There is no repainting.
