GUTTER HOUSES…very much resemble Bliss Houses and they blend quite nicely in a Bliss neighborhood.! However, unlike the prolific Bliss firm, there are only 6 known houses in this enigmatic Series of 'Gutter Houses’. They are called Gutter Houses for the unpainted ornamental moldings that run along the roof line as serve as ‘gutters’ . Though Gutter Houses are American made and an obvious contemporary of Bliss the maker is still unknown and they are a precious find. This rare house is overall 18”tall x 10”across the front and 9”deep.

WELL DETAILED AND TRUE TO LIFE…these houses have amazing lithography which gives them a very realistic aspect. They are lithographed with equal effort on all three sides. The back like most houses is not papered. The roof and the dormers were not papered either…except for the presence of a pair of windows in each dormer. The lithographed window of one dormer has been artfully re-painted. There is a balcony over the porch and it has, like the ground floor does, its own functional door. One door jamb has a small mend. The first floor has the original Eisenglass windows and lace curtains.

THE INTERIOR OF THE GUTTER HOUSE…has two very pleasing spaces…and this house comes with the 10 pieces of quality artisan furniture and decor shown as well as an antique fireplace. The gold fireplace has an added wooden mantel shelf. The dolls and animal are for display only.

The First Floor is 6.5” tall from floor to ceiling. The focus of the room builds around a Miniature Antique Fireplace complete with lacy metallic tracery and its own metallic flame!
The Second Story has a cathedral ceiling coming to a point that is 9‘ tall at the apex and allows for a hanging Chandelier. It would nicely compliment the delicate gold & silver Filigree Parlor Set. Some collectors over the years and still today have added a ceiling to rooms like these…creating a Third Floor used as a small attic, bath or nursery.

THIS HOUSE HAS...the original oversized floral paper paper on the floors. The papers on the walls are a smaller design. This wall paper may or may not be original but they are old enough in that they exhibit some light unobtrusive staining. It is also a fact that, at the turn of the century, the doll house wallpaper patterns were becoming less Victorian and more true to scale. The mix of papers in this house may likely indicate that this is a transitional model.

This Gutter House, which was not made for very long, will add variety to your collection whether it stands alone as the rarity it is or whether it adds variety and distinction to you current village or street.

CONDITION…Very good. Outstanding fresh colors. There is very little to no waffling of the lithography which allows the colors to resonate without glare…and also bodes well for its longevity. The lithography is quite complete. There is some litho loss primarily to the back corner of the foundation brickwork. The pin in the lower hinge of the facade is replaced with a wire loop. The facade is slightly warped but closes and accepts the latch. The first floor window and their curtains are the originals. The green wooden finials and columns are the originals as well. Gutter houses are not known to have steps or chimneys. Don’t forget this house is sold with the furniture shown.!
