Offered here is a wonderful New Martinsville Number 772 black glass Flower Cart. In solid, shiny, opaque black glass, this old-time flower cart features two fixed wheels, one on each side, and a pair of straight handles at the back. There are two legs, made in one piece with an arch to join them. The sides of the cart are pleasantly curved, ending in the two feet. This is a very solid piece. Great as a candy dish, and picture it filled with spring violets or other bright flowers!
Much heavier than it looks, Flower Cart #772 is 4-1/4 inches tall and 6-3/4 inches long from the front to the end of the handles. It is 5-inches wide across the 2-1/2 inch wheels. The inside of the cart is 4-inches by 3-5/8 inches and nearly 2-inches deep at the front and 1-3/8 inches deep at the back.
Made by New Martinsville, likely between 1937 and 1944, before the company was sold to Viking Glass. There is no mark.
There is a pinhead-sized flaw like a popped bubble on the side with the handles. There are expected minor surface scratches on the inside, that are nearly invisible except under bright light. There are no chips or cracks on this wonderful vintage piece.
