Offered for your consideration is this delicate Empress Dresden Flowers Demitasse Cup and Saucer by Schumann, Bavaria. No detail is missed in the beloved Empress Dresden pattern. The embossed and scalloped rim of each piece is decorated with four cartouches of latticework outlined in scrolling gold flourishes, each with a different color blossom in blues, oranges, and pinks. The cartouches intersect a band of larger multicolor flowers in raised relief. The inside and outside of the cup, as well as the saucer, are dotted with tiny sprays and blossoms in purples, yellows, oranges, blues, and pinks. The scalloped rims, foot, and handle are trimmed with a double band of gold, and the inner rim is also gold-trimmed.
The diminutive cup is 1-5/8 inches tall and 2-3/4 inches in diameter, on a 1-1/4 inch flat foot. The matching saucer is 4-1/4-inches in diameter.
Made by Schumann between 1946 and 1949, the back stamp is the familiar orange Schumann Crown and Shield backstamp, followed by the words "Schumann/Bavaria/Germany/US Zone." Each piece also has a numeral 5 in blue and a faded number that may be 95.
Empress Dresden Flowers remains today as one of the most popular patterns in Bavarian Porcelain.
There are both wear and patina on the gold rims, but I find no damage to this beautiful set.
