You'll fall in love with this adorable Kewpie baby planter from Lefton! Numbered 3631, this little cupid's oversized head on his darling baby body qualifies him to be the focal point of any head vase collection. Those big blue eyes rimmed with black lashes are his most striking feature, but everything about him from his pointer finger reaching almost to his pink lips, his tiny little toes, his belly button and the dimples on his bottom make this little kewpie irresistible. He has a pointed topknot of brown-blonde painted-on hair, with a little tuft curling out like miniature wings above his ears.
He measures 7-inches tall and about 3-1/2 by 4-inches wide. The D-shaped opening at the top is about 2-by 2-1/2 inches. Issued by Lefton China circa the 1950s to 1960s, the Original Red and Gold foil label that reads "Lefton Trade Mark Exclusives Japan" is intact. The item number is stamped on the bottom in black “3631.” There is also the remnant of a circular paper label and there are two green felt circular pads on the underside. There are a couple of large spots that might be able to be cleaned off on the side of his head.
This little cupid has the all-over non-discolored crazing that is typical of vintage bisque pieces of this era. He will undoubtedly need some careful cleaning, especially on the inside, as he was clearly lovingly used. His big blue eyes are bright and clear, and the rest of the color of his face, hair, etc, is all in good shape. There are no chips.
