This fortunate find by Aynsley Bone China is a pretty yellow Teacup and Saucer in the Fruit pattern, similar to Orchard Fruit, Signed by the artist, D. Jones. On a pale yellow ground, the inside of the cup is covered with a beautifully detailed depiction of fruits, including an apple, purple plums, blackberries, and raspberries in purples and deep pinks and reds. The fruit is accented with lifelike greenery and various smaller fruits and nuts. This beautiful work of art is signed "D. Jones" inside of the cup. The outside of the cup and the 2-inch wide rim of the saucer are both finished in Aynsley's buttery yellow color. The cup's handle is gilded, and the foot is ringed with three bands of gold. The scalloped rims of both pieces as well as the cup ring on the saucer are also trimmed in gold.
This highly sought-after, artist-signed cup measures 2-1/4 inches tall, 2-7/8 at the top of the handle, and 4-inches in diameter across the top with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 2-1/8 inch diameter foot. The matching saucer is 5-3/4 inches in diameter.
The back stamp is the familiar Green Crown flanked by “Est. 1775” above the Aynsley Banner, followed by “England Bone China 30.” The pattern number, 439S, and an M are written by hand on the cup. The inside of the cup is signed “D Jones.” The saucer has the matching backstamp, but none of the handwritten marks. Doris Jones worked at the Aynsley factory from 1938 to 1969.
Any wear is minimal, though the gold may have the normal slight patina of age. There are no chips or cracks on this gorgeous set.
