Engine turned to both sides within a plain border, the front applied with a part enamelled Royal Air Force (RAF) emblem and an enamelled blue, white and red 'ribbon' to a corner, mirror now missing. Dated : 1939. Sterling silver.
An interesting piece from the year running into the start of the Second World War, with RAF associations. Perhaps a gift for a sweetheart or maybe owned by a member of the Women's Royal Airforce or WAAF, which was formed that year. The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. was an important London firm that was established in 1880 and eventually, in 1952, absorbed into Garrard's the then Crown Jewellers, It is a shame that the mirror is missing and that there are a few dents, but the association with the RAF will always be popular with collectors, particularly pieces from this period.
Size : 7.5 cm. ( 2 61/64" ) x 7.5 cm. ( 2 61/64 " ) , depth : 0.8 cm. ( 0 5/16" )
Weight : 117g. ( 4.12 ounces ).
Condition : good , note however : a few tiny dents, no mirror attached !
