A George III silver rectangular vinaigrette, Cocks & Bettridge, Birmingham, 1814.
The lid engraved with leaf sprays around a vacant reserve and within a raised foliate border, the underside with a simple flower spray, having a gilt interior and foliate pierced and engraved inner lid.
Size: 3.5 cm. ( 1 3/8" ) x 2.4 cm. ( 0 15/16" ).
Weight: 16g. ( 0 .56 ounces ).
Condition : in general, very good for its age !
The date letter is an upside down 'q' for 1814 rather than a 'b' for 1799, and the later Regency style of the box with the raised border to the lid would seem to confirm that. The condition looks very good with largely crisp detail to the decoration. Cocks & Bettridge produced some fine novelty vinaigrettes which make very strong prices.
