This unusual square Karadja rug displays three columns each of 5 characteristic medallions in three distinct styles:eight point boxes, hooked diamonds and rayed hexagons. There is a wide range of blue tones, from the royal blue of the field to a lively light blue and a bright middle azure. Two slender vertical poles separate the main devices which are drawn on a smaller scale than is common on Karadja rugs. The blue field / ivory ( turtle ) border combination is rare for Karadja rugs and the square format makes it doubly uncommon. There is an attractive scatter fill of stars,x's,boxes and other formal shapes in the field around the major medallions.Blue field Karadja pieces in allover pattern are very popular rugs and more often,if found, they appear as room size carpets ranging from 8x10 to as big as 12x18.It is very rare to come across a scatter size piece of this pattern. This rug has been cleaned professionally and is free of any stains or odors. For more information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
