A rich navy field displays five geometrically lobed red medallions, each with four palmettes as internal decor. Colourful stylized rosettes in green, ivory, red and medium blue line up at the edge of the field. The square volute knots at the center of the medallions call to mind the similar but rounded rosettes in the borders of Talish rugs. The piece must come from close to the Shahsavan and Talish border areas of Persia and the Caucasus. The "S" main border can be found on many Caucasian and NW Persian rugs.
There is a single cotton weft between the knot rows. The warps are also cotton. The original end weaves are partially intact. This is a totally authentic rug with wear in the field. The rug is still solid and has many years of life left. This runner has been cleaned professionally. For more details please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
