This unusually square Tabriz carpet takes its pattern almost directly from Kerman "Vase" carpets of the early 17th century. The slate blue field displays a multi layer pattern of various types of palmettes and two small vases with detached floral sprays sprinkled about discreetly. The use of classic Persian patterns is a Tabriz practice began in the 1920's following the Hadji Jalili period of primarily medallion carpets.
The peach palmette, rosette and floral spray border also descends from Kerman sources.
The mellow colours make this carpet particularly versatile, allowing it to adapt to almost any furnishing scheme. The pattern is authentic and well executed. Tabriz rugs are famous for their precise and neat execution.
The pile is slightly short and even, and it has never been much longer. The wool is firm and brushy, and the carpet has a leathery handle. The foundation is all cotton. This rug has been cleaned professionally. For further information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
