For sale is a very hard to find item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is called a single deck card box and is part of the highly collected "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. This card box measures 4" tall, 3 1/16" wide and 1 1/4" deep.
This box displays a rectangular shape. It has a very nice Tiffany red/green/brown organic patina. The acid etched pattern of filigree that resembles Pine Needles has been a popular pattern among LC Tiffany collectors for years. The box has a two toned light green Favrile opalescent stained glass. These boxes are hard to find and considered to be one of the most desired items in the Tiffany desk set pieces to collect.
This card box is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips to any of the glass or frame. I cannot find any excuses for this piece. The lid opens and closes with ease. The box is signed on the bottom short side with the micro "Tiffany Stvdios New York" impressed signature mark. There is the letter "v" in Studios. This along with the micro impressed signature denotes this as an early piece. There is no pattern number so we can date this box based on the impressed marks.
Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. A two digit numbering system from 1898-1902. Since this has a no digit number it predates this as it was made very early, say circa 1895-1898. I'm positive the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. Truly a quality rare find in excellent condition. I have had a handful of these boxes through the years.
