This rare embossed wooden Dolly Dingle/Curly Locks picture is all original and by the famous artist G.G. Wiederseim. Grace was born Grace Grebbe in 1878, Philadelphia and she married Theodore Wiederseim in 1900 and divorced him in 1911. She then married William Drayton. This is why you will find both of her married names mentioned about her as an artist and illustrator.
the artist ( Grace Wiederseim/Grace Drayton is renowned for her creation of the original Campbell Soup Kids images. Her Dolly Dingle paper dolls first appeared in 1913 in the magazine, Pictorial Review, and continued to be featured in it through the 1920's.
This framed work features the poem "Curly Locks" which is situated just beneath the large picture of Curly Locks. It has a protective glass window. On either side of it are raised carvings of a mother duck and her two ducklings. Beneath this is another glass window showing dolly dingle a friend and a dog and cat having a picnic.
The entire work is in very good condition with the exception of some wear to the surrounding large wooden frame. I am not an expert in this field but I believe this is a very scarce, if not rare example by G.G. Wiederseim. Grace Wiederseim/ Drayton nee Grebbie died in 1936.
